Netherlands 0:1 Spain
Congrats to the new World Champion SPAIN!!! Also to the Netherlands that played a very good tournament if not the best at all!
Uruguay 2:3 Germany
Thank you, Germany, for enchanting us with your wonderful play and congrats for winning the third place! We will see you again in four years in Brazil.

Who will win the FIFA World Cup 2010?
The Semi-Finals
July 7,2010
Uruguay 1:3 Netherlands
Germany 0:1 Spain
Germany lost their semi-final. I am at loss for words.

I wanted them to win so much!
Congratulations to Spain!

After 32 years - last time in 1978 against Argentina (3:1 a.e.t. lost) - the Netherlands reached the final of the World Cup 2010. But it was a hard piece of work. Uruguay defended effectively and didn't let the Oranje make their play. It was in an eventful encounter punctuated by excellent goals from Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Diego Forlan, Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Maximiliano Pereira. The Netherlands will face either Spain or Germany in the final. Congratulations to Holland!!!

The Quarter Finals
July 3,2010
Netherlands 2:1 Brazil
Uruguay 5:3 Ghana
Argentina 0:4 Germany
Paraguay 0:1 Spain
After a weak match Spain is the last team to reach the semi-finals. They have beaten Paraguay with 1:0. Both teams have missed a penalty each. Spain set up a potentially thrilling semi-final meeting with Germany but the European champions had to do it the hard way, requiring a lone second-half strike from David Villa to claim a 1:0 win over a resilient Paraguay.

Jaaaaaaaaa, Deutschland!!!! We sent them Argentians home! Germany won 4:0! Let's party!!!Germany booked a semi-final spot in spectacular style, cruising to a resounding 4:0 win over Argentina. Diego Maradona’s Albiceleste came into this match with high hopes of avenging their quarter-final defeat in 2006 but they ultimately had no answer to a slick, powerful German side who will now face Spain in the last four. The first goal was scored after only 3 minutes by Thomas Müller who will miss the semi-final because of a second yellow card. It was Germany’s 200th World Cup goal, their fastest in 32 years and the quickest so far at South Africa 2010. Congratulations, Germany!!!
Goalgetters:
Thomas MÜLLER (3')
Miroslav KLOSE (68', 89')
Arne FRIEDRICH (74')

First surprise: Brazil is out! Second surprise: Uruguay is still in!Everyone who voted for Brazil in my last poll is proved wrong.
Brazil miscalculated the Netherlands. After a brilliant goal in the beginning, a major mistake by the keeper combined with Felipe Melo's own goal (who was sent-off later) and a standard situation Brazil was out of the competition. A whole nation is heart-broken and the dream to win the sixth cup is busted. On the one hand I am relieved that Germany hasn't to play against them in the final so they achieve it, on the other hand I feel sorry for Brazil because they could have so much more to show and accomplish in this World Cup because they had a very good and organized team this time. But I am also happy for Holland. It's their stated aim to win the cup for the first time at all.

The match Uruguay - Ghana was VERY dramatic. The Africans would have deserved to win and they were so damn close! There are tears across the continent. In the very last minute of the extra time Ghana had a 100% chance to score but it was cleared first on the line and the follow-up by handball and Gyan missed the resulting penalty. Ghana didn't have the nerves to come through the folloing penalty shoot-out. I am so sorry, Africa!
This was my original tip who is gonna make it to the quarter finals:
(I was right except for USA that didn't make it.)
Huzzza, Germany!!!
June 28,2010
Yay, Germany beat their old rival England and made it to the quarter finals!!!

But first of all, thanks to the English for this great match! They had a lot of bad luck when a clear goal was not given because everyone but the referee saw that the ball was behind the goal line. Well, some kind of revenge for this controversial third goal for England in the the World Cup final from July 30, 1966 when England won against Germany 4:2 after extra time (the only title for England by now). Unfortunately this is now the highest defeat against Germany that England had to accept in a World Cup. Disgrace for the ones, glory for the others.
Nevertheless, Germany played VERY strong, delivered a striking match and made 4 great goals. Except for the last 15 minutes of the first half when England was close to equalize to 2:2 and actually did. The wonderful Thomas Müller scored two times. The team is now looking forward to the quarter final against Argentina!

World Champions are OUT!!!

No luck for Italy this time! They didn't pass the group stage. That's very bitter but it shows that there are changes needed in the team. Italy needs fresh blood. The match against Slovakia was very exciting and in the closing stages the Azzurri tried everything to reach a draw but there was also a lot of bad luck involved: one goal invalid, one cleared off the line.

Italy humbled by All Whites
June 20,2010
New Zealand caused South Africa 2010's biggest shock thus far by holding world champions Italy to a 1:1 draw. In the end, only a Vincenzo Iaquinta penalty prevented the Azzurri to lose all three points to the All Whites, who took an early lead through Shane Smeltz, produced a courageous and intelligent performance to earn their second FIFA World Cup point. Congrats Kiwis! Sorry Italy!

First WC Sensation is Perfected!!

SPAIN - LOST - AGAINST - SWITZERLAND! Wow, this is a sensation! Switzerland pulled off the biggest shock so far at this FIFA World Cup as Gelson Fernandes's second-half strike downed Spain. The Swiss team fighted like one man against the Kings of Europe and one of the top favourites of the World Cup and have been rewarded. Spains team dominated the whole match but couldn't break the defense of the Swiss. Congratulations to one of Europe's most successful club coaches, Ottmar Hitzfeld, former coach of Bavaria Munich.
South Africa lost, too. They played a very shiftless match and rightfully lost with 0:3 against Uruguay. A Diego Forlan double silenced the crowd for the first time during South Africa 2010 as Uruguay dealt the host nation's chance of reaching the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup a major blow. They have to win now against France in their last group match but this is unlikely. As it seems for the first time in history the World Cup host will be knocked out in the first round.

The Humming of a Bee Swarm
June 13,2010
... This is the constant sound of the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa, created by a blowing horn called
Vuvuzela that is commonly used by South African football fans. The sound is nerve-racking and loud but well, other countries, other manners. What counts at the moment is:
GERMANY WON!!! Tonight Germany's team played their first group match against Australia and won 4:0! Wow, what a terrific start!
I was kind of upset when I found out that Australia was in the same group with Germany. Because I am cheering for the Australian football team, too. I remember the last World Cup in 2006 in Germany when they unluckily lost against Italy in the round of 16. I dedicated a wallpaper to them back at that time. I hope they will find a way to succeed in the other two group matches because today they were literally smashed my the German team.
